We Invite You to Celebrate Independence Day Together at Home this Year!
July 4, 1776. That’s the day our fearless forefathers showed the British to the door in the American Revolution! Our original 13 colonies claimed their independence from England by signing the Declaration of Independence, which led to the founding of the United States.
The official document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson and signed first by John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress on that historic day. Nearly a year later, on June 14, 1777, to promote pride and unity, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act, adopting the first flag of the United States of America.
Over two centuries later, we still proudly celebrate the birthday of our country with festivals and family and community gatherings across the nation. From singing the national anthem to waving American flags, these symbols of patriotism never go out of style.
This year, in the shadow of COVID, we all may have to adjust our annual Independence Day celebration plans. That’s why we invite you to celebrate at home and show pride in America from your front porch, your backyard or on a street curb social distancing and celebrating with friends and neighbors. Here are some ideas for celebrating together at home this year:
- Have a picnic in your backyard with games and races for your household
- Watch patriotic movies inside or outside your house
- Have a DIY fireworks show, complete with sparklers for the whole family
- Read aloud the Declaration of Independence
- Decorate the outside of your house, driveway and yard with American flags
Just because the annual festivities may be canceled in your neighborhood doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate the birth of our great nation. Show your patriotism and explore our selection of stick flags, full-sized flags, and cloth and bunting products.
